About me

Why should you entrust your accounts to me? Your accounts and your taxes are incredibly important to you, and I understand the need for you to be cautious when deciding whether I should or could be trusted with your financial affairs.

I’m an ACCA qualified accountant with nearly 30 years’ experience, and I’ve built my practice around helping people feel comfortable and confident with their finances. For me, it’s not just about producing accounts. It’s about making sure you actually understand them, without the jargon, and always giving you the chance to ask questions.

Before moving into accountancy, I worked as an engineer at Rolls Royce on their aero engines. That background gave me a strong eye for detail and a practical, methodical approach that I still bring to my work today.

I started my own practice because I wanted to offer a more personal service than you may get with larger firms. I take the time to build relationships with my clients, being available throughout the year, not just when the accounts are due, so you always feel supported.

I’m not interested in billing every minute or maximising fees, I’d much rather know my clients are happy, informed, and properly looked after. If that sounds like the kind of approach you’re after, you’ll be in good hands here.

About the practice

Although I’m based in Wantage, working with clients further afield is just as easy thanks to cloud-based software. I currently support clients as far away as St Ives, Portishead and London, while also regularly visiting Witney, Brize Norton and the surrounding villages across South Oxfordshire.

Xero is my go-to software for bookkeeping, VAT returns and MTD compliance. Because it’s cloud-based, I can access your records from anywhere with a WiFi connection, giving both of us flexibility and keeping everything running smoothly.

That said, I’ve spent over 20 years working in practice, so I’m very comfortable using other platforms too, including Sage, QuickBooks and FreeAgent, whatever works best for you.

Why Toffee Dog?

One of the first things that you may ask is "where did the name Toffee Dog come from?" Well, I went through several of the usual options to start with - either based on my name or location, but these were all incredibly dry and didn't really come across the way I wanted. They were too "corporate", and I wanted something more approachable.

When I was advised that a lot of modern names seem to be a random selection of a colour, a sweet or an animal, that was when I was inspired by my son's dog Koda. Koda is a reddy brown husky, quiet but incredibly loyal. Independent, relaxed but always ready to say hello.

I thought I could take a lot from Koda, and he is the original Toffee Dog.
